The Benefit of Sleep
When you go to sleep at night, do you realize the complex nature of the act of sleep? There are five critical stages in getting restful, healthy nights sleep. These five stages are important in maintaining your body’s longevity through out the day, and the general health of your body as well. For some, sleep comes easy. Just get into bed and laydown and fall asleep. For others, it is a struggling nightmare of restless ness and frustration. The brains activity can be still buzzing at night, which makes it hard for some to sleep. Others are more adept at shutting down and drifting off into relaxation and bliss.
There are huge benefits to getting the proper sleep. One that I found most shocking was sleep actually helps in controlling your body weight! There are certain hormones that manage your appetite. If your body not allowed the proper amount of sleep, the hormones are off balance, and your food cravings are amplified. The increase in hunger usually wants higher caloric foods, and that means fats and carbs. So, a proper amount of sleep can definitely help in your diet and exercise plan!
Another benefit of the proper sleep is a reduction of stress. Having a good night sleep can help with a reduction of your blood pressure and your heart. Your cardiovascular system is always under high demands, and the advantage of getting the right amount of sleep can help reduce the stress and conditions that are connected to heart disease and even strokes. With stress, there are actually destructive hormones released throughout the day, which have negative results on the body. Stress can wear your body down, and if you get the proper amount of sleep, it can repair the damage the stress had on your body throughout the day. Your body can regenerate and heal from the damaged caused from a typical stressful day.
The final benefit from a good nights sleep can be memory improvement. We have all felt groggy and even unresponsive at times after having a horrible nights sleep. Remembering the last few minutes is almost a chore. If you get the proper sleep, your memory can actually expand. If you are studying at school, or need to remember important information at work, remember to get enough sleep throughout the week. A typical adult needs 7 to 8 hours of sleep a day. Most probably get around six hours. This is definitely not beneficial to the mental and physical well being of your body and mind. The brain can work better and increase its awareness and perception of ideas and preservation of new knowledge, only if it gets the required amount of sleep. Even a nap during the day can help regenerate your mind and body for the final hours of work. Don't be shy about taking a nap, it can be just as important as getting the right amount of sleep. So, remember if you want a healthy and productive day, get more sleep. This along with exercise and a healthy diet can help in a long, productive life.

A very informative and well written hub. I am a night owl and often do not get to bed till 4AM. This past week I have been sick so I have been going to bed early.
I honestly dropped three pounds this week. It could be due to the fact that I'm not feeling well or it could be a better balance of hormones like you state in your article. My memory is always sharper when I do get a good nights sleep.
Thanks for the excellent hub and great information. I know how important it is to get a good night's sleep. I will just have to work at it a little more.
Thanks again,
Sage
