I recently have purchased a Lexmark E260DN monochrome laser printer. My wife felt that she will be printing a lot of papers because she is currently attending school. I was not at all excited about getting a laser printer; however, I am glad we purchased one. Here are the benefits and some of the negatives of having a laser printer. If you do a large amount of document printing, and don’t need color graphics and also want a low price, the monochrome is the way to go. Color laser printers can be a lot more expensive, however they are beneficial as well, compared to the jet ink printers.
The first benefit I found was the speed in which the print job is done. It is instant! I love it. You don’t have to wait for the print head to go back and forth taking what seems like forever to print a simple document. It is quick and clean. The print quality is great, no smudging or smears.
One thing you need to watch out for is how long the print cartridge will last. Another words, really research how many pages it can print per cartridge. Obviously, the higher the number, the longer lasting it is. Print speed is also an issue you should look for. How many pages per minute it can print.
You should also look to see how much the replacement
cartridge is. For instance, I did buy
the Lexmark E260DN, but found that the replacement cartridge at the local
Staples was $130! Luckily, after more
research on Amazon.com, I was able to find a replacement for almost half the
price. Replacement cartridges are a very
important part of the equation. You need
to find out the cost before you purchase the printer, to see if in the long run
it will be worth it. Remember to look what kind of options the printer has as well. For instance, does it have a LED display, or is it wireless. The ease of the paper tray opening, can be important too. Even the location of the on and off switch can be an issue. Research it almost as you would a car or house. It is something that will be with you for a while.
Lastly, the warranty needs to be considered. Some companies have a typical 1 year warranty. Some have even less of a warranty. If you get a warranty replacement on your printer, watch out, because that is only covered another 90 days in some cases, if your warranty coverage runs out you do not have a one year warranty on that replacement. What appealed to me on the Lexmark was that this one came with a three year warranty. Some even come with a 5 year warranty. That is almost unheard of these days. So, before making a decision on buying a monochrome laser printer, remember to research price, speed, and durability. Laser printers are a great addition to printing; just make sure you get the right one.
